The Wasatch Mountain Club publishes a small monthly magazine called "The Rambler". The publication contains among other things
  • a directory of upcoming activities with brief descriptions,
  • articles by club's directors, coordinators and members,
  • trip reports,
  • pictures
  • notices and advertisements.
Most of the information in The Rambler can also be found in the pages of the WMC website. In particular, the upcoming activities can be found on the Calendar web page.

Below are links to full color online copies of the current and past Ramblers.

It is hoped that in the future, paper publication of The Rambler will be discontinued.

Today, however, members can save some trees and five bucks by choosing not to receive a paper copy of the Rambler. To stop receiving a paper copy, uncheck the box in the upper left on the Renew/View Membership web page just to the left of "receive the Rambler" and click "Update". Delivery of the paper copy should stop within a month. The five buck discount will be realized when you renew your club membership subscription.

The WMC greatly appreciates your submission to The Rambler. Submissions may include
  • volunteering to organize an activity,
  • articles,
  • pictures,
  • trip reports and
  • marketplace ads.
The WMC would appreciate if wherever possible you would make the submission via the WMC website.

Online submissions that need approval are normally added to the WMC web site within a few days. Those that do not need approval are added immediately. Email submissions may take considerably longer. To have a submission appear in the next month's Rambler, it's a good idea to submit it online by the 10th of the current month or significantly earlier if submitted by email.

All submissions are considered general property of the WMC and available for future use in slideshows, publication or website exhibition.

  • To volunteer to organize an activity please fill out the online form. You may instead email the appropriate activities director. Their email addresses are listed on the contacts web page.

Please note that the appropriate WMC director must approve an activity before it is listed in the Rambler or on the club's online calendar.

  • Articles can be emailed to the publications editor.

  • Pictures can be emailed to the publications editor. Pictures published in the Rambler require high resolution. Send the highest quality image you have, or your internet connection can handle. Pictures are published at 300 dpi.

It would be appreciate if you would provide for each picture
    - the names of people that appear in the picture,
    - the date the picture was taken and
    - the location.

  • Trip Reports may be submitted using any of the following methods.
    1. On the calendar page click on the description of the activity for which you are submitting a trip report and then click on the link located at the bottom of the activity description window. This link directs you to the trip report input form located within the member's only area of the website. (If you have not already logged in, the log in web page will be displayed.) Some of the information about the activity is automatically filled into the form. You can just add your description of the event and submit. Submitting a Trip Report in this way automatically generates a link from the activity's description on the calendar to the trip report.
    2. From within the left hand panel of the member's only area, select Trip Reports. and just fill out the blank Trip Report form. When you use this method, no link is created from the activity on the calendar page to the trip report.
    3. Trip reports may be emailed to the publications editor.

If you want to be able to direct readers to pictures of the event you first need to enter them using the member's only Photo's area. Once the photos are visible on the website you can then copy and paste the link for these photos into the photo link field of the Trip Report submission page.

As of March 22, 2007, there is no online support for editing trip reports. Contact the publications editor for help.

  • Marketplace ads are small 1-3 line advertisements for personal items wanted or for sale. This service is free for members. It is available to non-members for a small fee: $5.00 for 20 words and $0.20 per additional word. Contact the publications editor to place a marketplace ad.
