hike seven lakes loop (uintas) - August 26, 2007
Reward yourself after a hot summer with a level to downhill hike! Join Mike for this biennial hike into Clegg, Dean, Notch, Cuberant, Kamas, Lofty, and Picturesque Lakes in this 'Bermuda Triangle' area of the Uintas. Several people have taken fatal missteps where three drainages leave the high sub alpine area. http://www.summitpost.org/album/302589/Hidden-Lake-Photo-Hunt-Trip-4.html On this hike it is imperative that the group stay together and wait for everyone! In fact, some in our group became separated on a late 90's version of this hike. It is approximately a 12 mile hike with car shuttle and a net elevation loss of 1,000 feet. We will have a one mile stretch of forest bushwhacking at the 10,000 contour to connect the trails around the back side of Reid's peak. Bring the 10 E's, poncho, high energy provisions, and good hiking boots for this all-day outing. An optional swim near the finish is a good way to cool off before heading back. We will not return to the Salt Lake Valley until at least 6:30 PM. Well-behaved dogs are OK on this one.
