ski tour red pine canyon to south fork weber river traverse (uintas): - January 15, 2007
After setting up a car shuttle, this tour begins at the Thousand Peaks Ranch gate with the Smith and Morehouse road "kick-n-glide" southbound and then turns southwest to climb along the narrow and steep Red Pine Canyon. Once on the 10,000 ft. ridge we'll descend into the South Fork of the Weber River. The distance is about 15 miles total with 2,500-foot elevation gain. Beacon and shovel required. Lightweight backcountry touring gear with scales, skins, or swix (grip wax) and proficient downhill technique required.
