canoe boating flatwater paddle and picnic on the provo - September 7, 2008
The WMC offers COVID conscious opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Participants of all in-person events should bring and wear face coverings, expect social distancing, and changes to our usual practices. This outing will include two trips down the Provo from below Deer Creek Dam to Vivian Park. We will enjoy a picnic at the park between the two runs. We will meet at the put-in just below Deer Creek Dam at 10 a.m. Optional car pool meeting points will be set up for South Salt Lake (Provo area?) and/or Park City depending on locations of those signing up to participate. We will do a car shuttle and probably begin our first run about 11. The run will take approximately an hour and fifteen minutes. After a picnic lunch in Vivian Park we will do another car shuttle and then a second run. We should finish up at Vivian Park around 3 p.m. depending on the time spent picnicking. You may also choose to just do the morning run or just the afternoon run depending on your interests. This is basically a flat water trip with a reasonable flow of current. There are areas of small whitewater ripples (less than a Class 1) and one area where we go under a bridge that requires paying a little more attention to your positioning because of the angle of the bridge supports. The drive to the put in is about the same distance from Salt Lake City going down to Provo and up the canyon or going up I-80 and then down 40 through Heber - the route choice depends on where you live. Specific directions to the put-in and carpooling arrangements will be coordinated after we have information on those who plan to attend. This trip is being led by Fred Tripp. Please provide Fred with an indication of interest at 301-461-0161 or by email at: firstname.lastname@example.org Fred and Margie will be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding this trip.
