nordic ski tour: north fork of the provo (uintas) - December 27, 2009
The WMC offers COVID conscious opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Participants of all in-person events should bring and wear face coverings, expect social distancing, and changes to our usual practices. To support contact tracing and hands-free signing of the WMC Liability Waiver, online registration is required for all in person WMC events. This XC ski tour follows rolling terrain through the forest and past meadows and beaver ponds to the 2.5 mile mark. The 'kick & glide' gives way to moderately difficult terrain leading up to the old yurt (site) ruins at the 3.0 mile mark. The long valley beyond and scenery is a just reward. Generally, lighter weight backcountry touring gear (with swix, scales, or skins) is used. Overall, the elevation gain is not substantial on this trip, unless one continues past the 7.5 mi. mark towards Duck Lake, which would be a very long day, indeed (a near-full moon will be rising). In that case, carpools can be arranged for seperate return times. Contact trip organizer if driving from the Park City area. Beacons are not required on this trip. Winter safety gear and headlamps advised. Meet at 8:15 am for an 8:30 am departure.
