ski tour boulder creek to fire lake (uintas) - February 1, 2009
Boulder Creek to Fire Lake and SM Divide. Early start-late return. The area is 'Simple Terrain' (Canadian Classification) defined as "low angle or primarily forested. Some forest openings may involve the runout zones of infrequent avalanches. Many options exist to reduce or eliminate exposure". The route to the Fire Lake area is 15 miles RT and 2,500 ft. elevation gain (18 miles RT and 3,000 ft. elevation gain for SM Divide. Participants should bring relatively lightweight gear for an afternoon of general backcountry touring (most people use a 3-pin touring set up with 3/4th or full metal-edge skis and sturdy boots, but only use the lighter equipment if you are comfortable with it for the downhill). Beacon, shovel, and skins. The organizer will be attending Vince's Spaghetti Dinner in Park City afterwards, however carpools can be arranged for separate return times.
