mod hike at ntd pace - destination change-city creek to little black mountain - June 18, 2011

The original plan was to drive up to the top of City Creek Canyon and go up the steep Smuggler's Gap trail to the Little Black Mountain Ridge for a traverse hike, but there is still too much snow on Little Black Mountain for a safe and comfortable experience. So, here is our alternate plan. We will start hiking at the Perrys Hollow trailhead, up the ridge past Little Twin Peaks, and as far into Little Black Mountain as snow conditions will allow. Bring trekking poles, boot traction devices (as there will be some snow), two liters of water, good hiking boots, hat, wind jacket, a lunch, etc. The hike will last about six hours, and will be about 5 to 6 miles round trip. The wildflowers are gorgeous up there right now. This hike is considered strenuous, about 8 miles with about 2600 feet elevation gain, but will be done at an NTD pace, so plan on a hiking time of 5 to 6 hours. This hike is co-listed with the Utah Sierra Club.
