road bike: stage coach inn - rush valley - pony express ride - May 21, 2011

We'll start at historic Stage Coach Inn in Fairfield. We'll ride west to 5-Mile Pass, north past the roads to Mercur and Ophir, then enjoy a great 5 mile downhill to the junction with UT-36. From there we'll head south for about 17-18 miles to the turnoff to Faust. We'll look at an historic marker about the Pony Express before heading east toward Faust and back to 5-Mile Pass. We will be riding along a section of the old Pony Express route. From 5-Mile Pass, we will get another good 5 mile downhill back to the start. The ride gains about 1300 feet of elevation total in chunks of about 200-400 feet at a time, so the climbing isn't too bad. There are no services anywhere along the route, so bring plenty of water and snacks.
