road bike: mirror lake highway from the evanston side - September 24, 2011

Let's do the Mirror Lake highway from the Evanston side. This is a great ride and a great place to ride. The scenery is just gorgeous. On top of that, we should get some good fall colors now, too. We'll start about 15 miles south of Evanston and ride to Hayden Pass. This side of the Uintas has much, much less traffic than the Kamas side, and the climbing grades are gentler. It doesn't get steep until the last 4-5 miles, and it still isn't as bad as the grades on the other side. Plus, you can turn around anytime you want if you get tired of climbing. On the way up, we can stop at Bear River Lodge for water, snacks and a breather. This is a social ride: ride at your own pace but we'll stop to regroup a few times along the way. Due to the climbing, we will probably split into compatible subgroups.
