road bike: frontside friday: alpine loop - September 30, 2011

Now is a GREAT time of year for this ride: the fall colors should be EXCELLENT! The reds should be peaking and the yellows should be coming on. Don't miss it! We'll start at the Purple Turtle and climb gently north to American Fork Canyon, then up the canyon past Timpanogos Cave. From there, it is up, up, up to the top; then down, down, down the other side past Aspen Grove and Sundance to Provo Canyon. There we will quickly pick up the Provo River Parkway bike path at Vivien Park to get safely down the rest of the canyon without having to deal with traffic. Then we'll climb a very short hill to the bench where Orem sits. From there, it is gently downhill or flat all the rest of the way back. No uphill whatsoever. I made sure of it. This is a social ride: ride at your own pace, but we will regroup several times along the way. Due to the climbing, we'll probably split into compatible sub-groups on the way up. When we get back, we can have lunch at the Purple Turtle.
