road bike: wasatch wednesday: westside frontrunner ride - August 29, 2012

NOTE: Slightly later meeting time: Meet at 8:15am; be ready to ride at 8:30am. The National Weather Service forecast (on 8/27) for Wednesday said: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. South southeast wind 15 to 18 mph in the Salt Lake area and a south wind 6 to 11 mph around Ogden. KSL is calling for a high of 98, though, and KUTV says 95. Sounds like a good day to start early and ride north, so that's what we'll do. We'll do a Frontrunner ride, pedaling north from Salt Lake to Ogden, enjoying a tailwind the whole way. We'll take Frontrunner back, letting it buck the headwind. This should be a nice, gentle ride. We'll keep to the west side of the valley which is ALMOST DEAD FLAT, riding rail trail nearly the whole way. Starting from the Salt Lake Frontrunner station, we'll quickly pick up the Jordan River trail, including the newly completed part that connects to the Legacy Parkway. We'll follow the Parkway to Farmington where we'll pick up the Denver and Rio Grande Western Rail Trail, riding that to its end just west of the Ogden airport. From there, we'll be back on roads for a short ride the rest of the way into Ogden. Once we hit Ogden, let's have lunch at Rooster's on lower 25th Street before we return. Bring $money for lunch and Frontrunner ($5.10 max fare). As usual, this is a social ride. We'll regroup regularly along the way to make sure everyone is okay and no one gets lost.
