mountain bikers + friends annual mormon trail bbq - September 30, 2012
Mountain Bike - Annual BBQ following Mormon Trail/Great Western Loop/East Canyon Road Ride - All levels and family and friends invited. BBQ starts around 5pm at the Mormon Flat Campground immediately following the rides. Bring a change of clothes and have something warm for when the sun goes down. MSD start 12:30 pm where Jeremy Ranch Road turns to dirt. We'll ride counterclockwise from there. The ride is approximately 23 miles and there is roughly 3,300 feet of cumulative gain. There is some hike-a-bike involved ;-) MOD start 2:30 pm at Mormon Flat Campground parking lot. This ride will be a 'self-organized' out-and-back up the Mormon Trail as far as you want to go or up to Big Mountain Pass and beyond. NTD start 2:30 pm also a 'self-organized' ride that will start at Mormon Flat Campground. The ride continues West on the dirt road and stays on dirt road till you hit pavement (approx 5 miles). If time allows go north on the paved road a few more miles to East Canyon Reservoir. Also out and back. BYO food for grill, plates and utensils and beverages. Please bring a dish to share if you care. Volunteers needed for fire wood and gas/brick coal grills!!! Please call or e-mail me today ;-) Getting to Mormon Flat Trailhead: Take I-80 to the Jeremy Ranch exit (141) and turn north (left from SLC & go under the freeway). Turn left at the first stop sign by the Phillips 66 station onto Rasmussen, then take the next right onto Jeremy Ranch Dr. Continue until the road turns sharply to the right, where you will continue straight on the dirt road (East Canyon Road). (NOTE: This is where the MSD ride will begin at 12:30). Drive another 3.9 miles until you see the parking area for Mormon Flat Campground on your left.
