road bike: mt. view corridor - August 27, 2013
This 51-mile loop features the Mt. View corridor in western SL County-a delightful divided highway that runs from 16000 South Redwood Rd. to 5400 South. We'll start at the 6200 South Park & Ride, then cruise south on Wasatch Blvd. through Draper to Highland Drive. After crossing under I-15 (where we'll be very careful of traffic at the interchange), we'll proceed west to Redwood Rd., then travel south 2 miles to the Mt. View Corridor. We'll then have 15 miles of nearly traffic-free cruising before turning back east. For the most part part, 5400 South is cyclist-friendly, but traffic increases as we near the Murray area. We'll then work our way south on Van Winkle to 6200 South, then enjoy the Mill Creek bike path before hooking up with Wasatch for our return to the start. We'll do our best to avoid traffic but this is city riding and you should expect multiple stops at lights. If the group wants to grab a late lunch, there are some good options at 30th East, just below our start/finish point. WEATHER ALERT: Check email Tuesday morning. If the weather looks bad, I'll cancel the ride.
