avalanche education: free uac science of avalanches - January 15, 2013

The WMC offers COVID conscious opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Participants of all in-person events should bring and wear face coverings, expect social distancing, and changes to our usual practices.
Registration is strongly recommended. Utah Avalanche Center Director, Bruce Tremper will give his popular talk, the Science of Avalanches. Bruce will explain the science of avalanches in plain, non-technical terms so that even non-scientists can understand exactly how avalanches work. Bruce uses many videos, props and models such as a tilt-board, foam rubber, cardboard boxes, paper cups, silly putty, rubber bands and other props in a Dr. Science talk. Avalanche geeks unite! Bruce will NOT cover basic avalanche subjects like terrain, rescue, safe-travel or other basic subjects. Register at http://www.rei.com/stores/salt-lake-city.html
