road bike: early (sort of) emigration lollipop ride - July 23, 2013
It will be another hot one today, so let's start a little early to beat the heat. Plan to be ready to ride promptly at 8:30am. We'll do a ride of about 30 miles that will have us back by noon before it gets too hot out. This will be a lollipop ride: a loop in the valley with a leg up Emigration Canyon. The ride will start from the parking lot at South Salt Lake's new Central Park (don't worry; you are familiar with the location, just not the name: it's the lot of the former elementary school at about 230 E Claybourne Ave (2770 S), SLC, we've launched from many times). To start, we'll work our way east and north by the zoo where we'll pick up Emigration Canyon and ride it to the summit at Little Mountain. If you want more miles and climbing, feel free to continue on to Big Mountain Pass. The ride organizer doesn't plan to join you for that, though. On the return trip, we'll stay on 800 S to 600 E where we'll head south through Liberty Park on the way back. If you'd like lunch afterward, we could pop over to Best Chicken & Ribs Greek Food a couple of blocks away to sample their fare.
