road bike: tuesday tour: wanship - kamas valley loop - July 9, 2013
Diane Rosenberg (thanks, Diane!) is organizing today's ride. To beat the heat, she is planning a backside ride from the Wanship Rail Trail parking area up to and around Kamas Valley, so it is part loop and part out-and-back. The ride combines parts of two or three others we do in the area and adds a twist or two. On the way back, we'll pass the Rhode Island Diner in Oakley; a nice place to stop for lunch if we wish. This is a ride for everyone. No real hills, just some short, gentle climbs and some rollers. The biggest climb is from the start up to Wanship dam. We gain about 150-200 feet over about 2 miles, which makes it only about a 2 percent grade. Then it is even gentler riding the rest of the way (well, maybe one or two tiny exceptions). If you want even fewer miles and a little less uphill, you can shorten the side jaunt near Oakley on the way back. As usual, this is a social ride. Plan to regroup several times along the way.
