road bike: slc to provo on jordan river pkwy, returning on frontrunner - September 10, 2013

This 60-mile ride begins at the SLC Frontrunner station and follows the beautiful Jordan River Parkway for the first 40 miles to Provo. If you haven't ridden the entire length of the JR Parkway, it meanders through various parks, residential areas, industrial parks, and open space. The scenery changes constantly and, while the terrain is flat, our pace will be slow due to frequent curves and other recreational traffic. I recon'd this route with a friend on Friday and we averaged 11.4 mph on the 40 miles of the bike path. Please bring $6.10 for train fare, lunch, snacks, and plenty of water. There will be opportunities to refill water bottles but there are no convenient 'C' stores. Once we reach Provo, we'll hope to make either the 2:50 or 3:50 train. FULL DISCLOSURE: While the the bike path is paved, there are many cracks and buckles in the concrete. Also, we'll encounter many joggers, walkers, and other cyclists, so heads-up riding is a must. Finally, it's important that we keep our group together, as there are numerous opportunities to make a wrong turn and the road markings are quite confusing once we exit the bike path.
