road bike: pineview-snowbasin 'leaves' tour - September 24, 2013

Autumn is well upon us and it's time to check out the leaves around Pineview Reservoir and Snowbasin. We'll start in Mountain Green, where you can grab a late breakfast or cup of your favorite morning brew at the Old Farmer's Market. We'll climb Trapper's Loop Rd., then loop around Pineview before heading up to Snowbasin on the old (and quite rutted) road. The road is officially closed halfway up, and we'll need to get off our bikes 3 or 4 times to navigate ruts that have accumulated over the years. Because the road is not maintained, there's considerable debris that could be hazardous to skinny tires. If you have the option of beefier tires, I highly recommend them. You should also be prepared for a good climb: The first 8 miles of this 10-mile stretch rise 1700 feet and there are several sections in the 7%-8% range. The payoff is a beautiful setting at the base of Snowbasin, where we'll stop for a snack and hopefully enjoy some beautiful autumn leaves before returning to Trapper's Loop and coasting back to the start. Please meet at the LDS church just west of the Old Farmer's Market and be ready to ride at 10:15.
