bike touring: fort buenaventura - September 7, 2013
This weekend event is an out-and-back pannier ride to Fort Buenaventura in Ogden. Our plan is to ride from our homes or from Farmington Station and meet-up Saturday morning at Harmon's in Farmington Station at 10am, and then roll north from there together. We'll camp Saturday night on the banks of the Weber River at Fort Buenaventura, and ride home Sunday; our agenda is to do individual cooking, but share a happy-hour-social Saturday evening at Fort Buenaventura. (For information on this historic campsite dating back to the fur-trader/mountain-man era, go to http://www.utah.com/stateparks/buenaventura.htm.) A wide range of services are available in the area for anyone who prefers to travel lite and buy local. Individual camp sites cannot be reserved in advance, but officials assure me there will be room for us. Camp sites will cost $18 for up to two tents per site on Saturday night, with showers available for $5.00. Riders from the Salt Lake area should plan on a 40-50 mile ride each way, depending upon starting location; riders from Farmington Station can plan on a 22 mile ride each day. Meet Elliott (801-969-2846) Saturday morning in Farmington at Harmon's at 10am. Please send me an email if you plan on doing this ride.
