conservation san rafael reef wsa boundary assessment - April 26, 2014

We'll jump on the Reef Wilderness Study Area boundaries in the southern San Rafael Swell for our first spring outing. We will continue to learn how to incorporate maps, GPS and Google Earth and maybe a drone to check for intrusions into the WSA plus some good old foot work. We'll dry camp Friday and Saturday nites on BLM land. Four wheel drive would be nice, but high clearance will also do. Based on turn out and prescreening I want to get'er done in a weekend. We will help the BLM Price Resource Area Office maintain the WSA in a non-impaired condition. This effort continues to evolve as mapping technologies advance but we will have paper topo maps and proceedures for checking potential problem areas and documenting them with cameras equiped with GPS capability. We will try to get done Saturday so that we will have Sunday to enjoy a nearby hike. This part of the Swell has dramatic canyons, suprising oases, and indian art. We'll tailor the hike or hikes to the participants.
