faint trails hike - frederick & crown prince mines, frederick tunnel - August 2, 2014

This is a two part event. Part 1 is a hike to the Frederick and Crown Prince mines high on Frederick ridge, and a return to Alta via the base of the Toledo mine dump and the old Toledo and Goodspeed trails. Alta has many scenic trails, but the 0.2 mile segment leading to Frederick ridge has to rate among the top. Total distance is about 3 miles with 1,000 feet elevation change and many sites of historical interest. In deference to the leaders carrying a heavy load of years, this will be a slow hike. Part 2 is "the rest of the story." We'll drive down the highway a short distance to the Frederick tunnel road, then take a walk to the tunnel site, about a third of a mile round trip.
