exploratory canyoneering backpack - August 28, 2014

Death Hollow in the Escalante has been on my to do list for over ten years, and has been actually planned three times, but hasn't happened yet, time to try it again. A 30+ mile, four day backpack, starting up on top of the mountain, and ending up in a slot canyon, there are down climbs, swimming with packs and poison ivy, all following the first day with 11 dry miles until we hit the first water source. A pretty good workout, which presupposes a reasonable level of fitness and canyoneering skills, although there is no actual rappelling. A beautiful place, a life list trip, but not one that comes cheaply, there is a price to be paid. Google it, read a few of the trip reports, drop me a line if you're up for it. Driving down thursday afternoon/evening, hiking friday through monday, home monday night. With four days in a monster drainage, this trip is weather dependent, not a place to be with any flash flood danger.
