first-step training for boating trips - February 21, 2014

Our first boating classroom training for 2014 is designed for those going on their first boating trips with the club. It will cover basic safety items, river etiquette, and other items appropriate to all paddlers. We start at 6 and can go until 8. Arriving late is better than not at all! In addition, we will go over canoe camping and packing basics. We will cover canoe-specific gear and get a brief introduction to paddling terms and approaches. This training is particularly suited for those going on the March Black Canyon trips, but is open to all canoeists, wanna-be canoeists and interested boaters of other crafts. Experienced boaters are welcome to attend and help. For those interested in using the club's boating gear, or participating in club boating trips, we will take a look at what the club offers in kitchen setup and storage options. Boating is a gear-intensive sport, and this is an opportunity to establish some familiarity with this gear, leaving the freedom to focus on boats and boating when you hit the water. Registration is preferred but not required in case of last minute decisions. Contact Pam Stalnaker at 801-425-9957 or canoepam@yahoo.com (preferred) to register or for questions. On-water training canoe training will be offered at the Bountiful Pond when we have open liquid water, probably in April. Several beginner boating trips are offered throughout the summer. Watch for announcements in the club calendar and the Rambler!
