road bike - west jordan to provo canyon

This ride has several options to vary the length. Meet at Copper Hills High School at 8:30 and get ready to ride. We will leave the parking lot of Copper Hills High School at 9:00. Most of this ride in on paved trail or road with a wide bike lane. It's a great route. The total elevation change from the low spot (Jordan River) to the high spot is only about 500 ft, however there are several ups and downs and several drainage (river/creek) crossing with short steep climbs as we drop in out of river bottoms. Overall I estimate the total climbs to be about 2000 ft total for the trip. Route with approximate one-way mileage. I recommend you print this and bring with you. 0 - Copper Hills High School (5200 West and about 8000 S) 1 - Mountain View Corridor at 9000 S - Go south 11 - End of Mountain View Corridor at Porter Rockwell Road. Go east to Redwood Road. South (right) on Redwood road to Jordan Narrows Road (East side of Redwood). This is just before the Veterans Memorial. If you get to the top of the hill you have gone too far. 13 - Jordan Narrows Road - Go east on this road to the Jordan Narrows Trailhead. Restroom available. We will go south on the Jordan River Parkway tail to Mile Marker 7. 16 - Marker 7. East (left) on Crooked Stick Drive to main road. Then North to Garden Drive. Right on Garden Drive. This road goes through the freeway interchange and has a bike path with a lot of lights. Watch out for traffic and use the path and lights. 18 - Start of Murdock Canal Trail. This is a very nice bike tail and goes for 19 miles. 37 - End of Murdock Canal Trail. Turn left (east) and ride up the Chevron gas station at the mouth of Provo Canyon. There is a rest room and water on the trail at mile 29 along the way. 38 - Chevron Gas Station - Time for Lunch! We will eat lunch at either the Chevron gas station or the little park at mile 45 on the way back, depending on the time we have made. There is a Subway at the gas station if you want to buy lunch. I am using this as a training ride in preparation for the June 23 Jackson bike tour. Some of us will be riding touring bikes with loaded panniers so we will be going at a slower pace. Everyone is welcome to ride with us or ride only part of the route. This is an out and back so you can turn around at any time. I will be riding my bike to the school so I will meet you all there.
