day hike: elephant head

This 9 mile out and back trek is to Elephant Head located on the western slope of Antelope Island. This event will launch from White Rock Bay, traverse across a grassland plain, and then switch-back up the island's western slope gaining approximately 1000 feet to a geologic feature known as Elephant Head. The view from Elephant Head is dramatic and provides wonderful 270 degree vistas of the Great Salt Lake from the Tooele Valley on the South to Ogden on the Northeast. Antelope Island has a very interesting geologic makeup and this hike will showcase some fun elements; also, it is common to see wildlife to include buffalo on this hike. This early season adventure should avoid pesky micro fauna, but everyone should bring bug spray just in case. Meet Elliott (801-969-2846) at the Council Hall parking lot located across from the State Capitol building on 300 North at 9:00am to carpool or caravan to the trailhead.
