ice axe & snow travel mountaineering workshop

We will cover selection of appropriate ice axe, basic snow travel, self arrest, glissading. We will spend about 3-4 hours, or until the snow gets too soft. Depending on interest, conditions & helpers, we will extend this to a second session to cover crampons, team rope travel, crevasse rescue, ... Bring clothes suitable for rolling around and sliding in the snow as you will be wet, cold & the snow is abrasive. Suggest warm boots stiff enough to climb moderately steep snow, gaiters, HELMETS ARE MANDATORY for any one using an ice axe, crampons if you have them and want to practice with them, trekking poles if desired. The club has a limited number of ice axes if you do not have one. Suggested donation of $5.00 for the workshop.
