social: sheepdog contest - September 1, 2014
If you're fortunate to have Labor Day off work join me in Heber Valley for the annual Soldier Hollow Classic. On September 1st this world class event challenges champion herd dogs and their owners with the task of moving fidgety wild range ewes down a hillside from 600 years away into a pen using only voice, whistle and hand signals; we'll watch in amazement as supremely intelligent work dogs ply their craft. Our itinerary is to arrive early and watch the initial dogs run the course, watch other dogs complete in an adjacent splash-dog contest, stroll through the many vendors on site, and then go to a nearby Midway restaurant for lunch before returning to Salt Lake. If you love dogs you'll enjoy this event. Binoculars are helpful, but not necessary. This is a fee event so bring money for entrance, gas and lunch. For additional information on this canine spectacular go to www.soldierhollowclassic.com. Meet Elliott (801) 969-2846 in the east parking lot of Skyline High School at 7:30am to carpool/caravan or at Soldier Hollow at 8:30am.
