road bike: monte cristo fall color ride

Let's do a fall color ride up Monte Cristo. The aspens should be blazing and beautiful. The organized ride will be 27 miles and 2,600 elevation gain. Climbers who want more are welcome to leave the organized ride and continue climbing to the Monte Cristo Campground for a total of 40 miles and 3,950 elevation gain (ride organizer will not be present). After the ride, we'll eat at Red Rock Cafe. The official 'organized' ride will be 27 miles: 9 miles of climbing, 9 miles of a descent, and 9 miles of gentle rollers. Don't want to climb? You are welcome to come later and join us for the flatter portion of the ride and eat lunch with us. We'll meet at the Red Rock Cafe, which is 8 miles east of Huntsville on Hwy 39 (comes up as Red Rock Adventures/Red Cliff Ranch on Google Maps). By meeting here, we'll avoid the part of Hwy 39 that is higher traffic, without much of a shoulder. This is a gorgeous ride. No restrooms or water at our starting point or during the ride, but available after the ride when the cafe is open.
