bike touring planning meeting for ride in colorado - March 24, 2016
The WMC offers COVID conscious opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Participants of all in-person events should bring and wear face coverings, expect social distancing, and changes to our usual practices. To support contact tracing and hands-free signing of the WMC Liability Waiver, online registration is required for all in person WMC events. This is a planning meeting to discuss a touring ride that I plan to lead 27 Aug - 3 Sep 2016 which will be similar to the ride I led last year. It will be a 330 mile ride loop beginning and ending in Glenwood Springs, CO. (about 55 or so awesome miles per day.) Enjoy MSD days in the saddle with plenty of sightseeing and time for enjoying gorgeous scenery. The trip will include some bike paths and some roads with low vehicle volume. There are a few steep climbs over passes (Vail and Rabbit Ears Passes)--around 18,000 ft. of vertical climbing for the week. You should therefore plan on riding a touring bike or a rig with very low gearing. This is a self-supported credit-card trip (we'll be staying in hotels each night). I guesstimate that it will cost around $500 per rider for food, transportation and lodging. All are welcome to attend this meeting to discuss logistics, route, etc. Give me a call if you plan on attending or have any questions.
