backpack death hollow - September 2, 2016

One of last years participants described this trip as a combination of The Narrows and the Subway. It is truly a magnificant area, and a beautiful canyon to hike down. We will drive down friday, after work if necessary, so you don't have to take any time off. We will drop in to DH via the Boulder Mail Trail on Saturday morning, spending two nights in the canyon, and enabling us to experience the best of Death Hollow, which is the lower end of the canyon. After two nights between the BMT and the Escalante River, we will exit to a stashed shuttle car via the Mini DH escape route, just below the confluence, getting us home monday night. This 3 day backpack into a deep and remote canyon while only covering some 16 miles, will involve a 1000 ft drop to the river, a steep 1000 ft climb out of the canyon up to the trailhead. and extensive walking in the river, sashaying around the poison ivy, with a swim or two along the way- your pack needs to be fully waterproofed, or rather the things inside your pack, drybagged.
