We will cover everything we did in the Ground School Workshop held last December with the addition of getting on a rope and rappelling. The objective of this workshop is to provide some basic personal canyoneering skills needed to descend easy canyons as team members with competent leaders and mentors. Skills introduced will include: Logistics and Safety - Leave No Trace Ethics - Rope and Equipment Care - Basic Knots - Intro to Anchors and Rigging - Whistle and Hand Signals. Participation space is limited to 10. No cost to WMC members, $10 for non-members. - What to bring Equipment needed: a harness, a canyoneering specific rappelling device, 3 locking carabiners, practice rope 10' long around 9mm diameter (for knot tying), 15' of 1" tubular webbing and whatever else you may need to stay comfortable for the day such as water and snacks. If you don't have the equipment, coordinate with the organizer to arrange what you need to borrow. - Important to know Obviously this event is near the end of February. The plan is to be indoors for the first half of the day and move outdoors after lunch. So stay tuned to this event for messages.
