rock climb - ferguson canyon - watchtower - May 16, 2018

This small canyon is just to the south of Big Cottonwood Canyon and is a great place to beat the summer heat. There are several small crags on north-facing walls under a canopy of large trees with a small stream running by. The Watchtower is the most popular crag in Ferguson and is the first one you come to. Many routes are trad with a few good sport routes. The wall is steep with horizontal seams. Most routes have good anchors for a single-rope descent, and a few have a steep walk-off to the west. Expect about a 15 minute approach. You may want to wear shoes that you do not mind getting wet if the stream is running high. All participants must wear a helmet. Do bring a warm layer. It can be chilly in the shade. PARKING TENDS TO BE LIMITED AND FULL. PLEASE TRY TO CARPOOL OR USE THE OVERFLOW LOT LOWER IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. DO NOT PARK ILLEGALLY.
