day hike - spanish fork peak via maple canyon

Spanish Fork Peak (10,192 ft) is located between Provo Peak and Santaquin Peak with big prominence, and thus offers magnificent views. The trail is very steep and rocky but does not have major scrambles/exposure. Bring 10 Es. Expect an early start and a long day. The estimated hike time is 7-8 hours. Email before Friday, noon, October 12, for the meeting place and time. Registration priority will be given to WMC members. Co-organized with Greg Lott. Note (10/12): The road to the Spanish Fork Peak trailhead is still closed because the Forest Service is working on evaluating hazardous trees and possible debris flows after the Pole Creek fire. So we will hike to Squaw Mountain & Buffalo Peak (7+ miles in total, 2,800 ft elevation gain). Buffalo Peak is on the way to Squaw Mt. No scrambles/exposure. There are steep sections. This hike will be exploratory.
