day hike - mt sneffels (14,150 ft) in co - July 24, 2020

We plan to summit Mt Sneffels (14,150 ft) which is considered one of the most beautiful CO mountains. We will start from East Dallas Creek TH near Ridgway. This route is very long (16 miles RT, 4,800 ft elevation gain) but is very scenic. The route is rated as class 1 to Blue Lake Pass from the TH. The last short part to the peak from Blue Lake Pass includes class 3 scrambles. A Helmet is recommended for rock falls for the last part. To avoid afternoon thunderstorms, we should make the peak and get down to the pass before noon. That said we will need to start very early in the morning. The estimated hike time will be 9-11 hours, depending on pace and conditions. The planned schedule is: July 24 Fri Road trip. July 25 Sat Mt Sneffels hike. July 26 Sun Road trip. The schedule may change depending on weather and conditions. This hike will be exploratory. WMC members only. For more details, please contact Akiko. Co-organized with Jim Kucera.
