road bike: mid-morning short exercise ride: west valley city loop - June 29, 2022

This is a series of short morning rides to get some exercise without spending a lot of time doing it. Today's ride will be about 24 miles with about 200 feet of elevation gain, so it's pretty flat. It starts in South Salt Lake and heads South to Murray, then works its way NW into West Valley city near 5600 W. It goes east and north up to 1700 S on the loop back. For the most part, there won't be a lot of busy streets and traffic on this ride, but we will have two particularly busy intersections to negotiate. One is where we cross under the 2100 S freeway at 3200 W, and the other is when we cross it again at 700 W. We will have traffic lights to aid us, so we will be fine as long as we exercise appropriate care and caution. Since this is a flat ride, we'll probably ride it at 12-14 mph on average instead of our usual 10-13. We'll probably ride the flats at 14-16+ mph some of the time, but the overall average pace should be in the 12-14mph range. Let's meet at 9:00am and start riding at 9:15. Temps are forecast to be in the 80s, but we should be done with the ride before it hits 90. I hope you can join us!
