mountaineering - mt baker via coleman-deming, wa - July 4, 2023
We plan to do a 2-day climb to Mt Baker (10,781 ft) via Coleman-Deming. While the climb will take only 2 days, the trip schedule will include extra days so we will be able to adjust the climbing dates based on the weather and conditions. Schedule - July 4 Tue: Road trip; July 5-8: Climb on 2 of the days; & July 9 Sun: Road trip. Climb Day 1: hike from the TH (a road washout) to the Hogsback Camp (6-7 hours). Climb Day 2: From the Hogsback Camp to the summit via Coleman-Deming, back to the Hogsback camp via the Coleman-Deming route & hike down to the TH (all day). Participants must: 1) have stamina to hike 6-7 hours with a heavy pack on Day 1 and 13+ hours on Day 2; 2) have done snow camping; 3) be willing to buy/rent required individual gear if necessary; 4) have required mountaineering skills such as ice axe and crampon use, team rope travel, crevasse rescue, and belaying (There will be a workshop that covers these skills in spring). For more details, please contact the organizer (please include your current fitness level and mountaineering experience). Limit 8. WMC members only. Note: There may be a private group that shares camping and descending via Coleman-Deming with the club group but ascend via North Ridge.
