paddling lower price river - May 12, 2023

The Lower Price River Canyon cuts southeast through the Book Cliffs just south of Range Creek. This section of the Price is about 22 miles plus another 6 miles on the Green River, so it will be an overnight trip. Plan is to drive down (3 hours), unload at launch, run shuttle to Swasey's and camp at launch first day, paddle and camp on river second day, portage BOS, paddle to takeout and drive home on third day. The forecast is for 750 cfs. It is a busy river, tending to be channelized and curvy with blind corners, not many eddies and riffles at the side canyons. Long Canyon has a good riffle (RM 11) and BOS rapid (RM 18) will be scouted and likely portaged. May Ranch is just below BOS and we will stop to explore it. Last ran it 2017 at 500 cfs. Here are a couple trip reports on AWW https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/view/river-detail/1866/main And a report about the May Ranch and rock art. http://udink.org/2020/04/16/lower-price-river-iii-may-ranch/
