full! nordic ski tour: daniel's summit 'triangle tour' (hwy 40)(heber) - February 16, 2026
THIS ACTIVITY IS FULL. This is a viewmaster nordic (XCD) ski tour- (Limit:6) Cross country with some low angle downhill- typical of the southern Uintas. Salt Lake and Park City groups. Off-track, 'fishscale' skis with metal edges are recommended. A pair of 'kicker skins' may be helpful if you have them, but are not required. Avalanche beacons are not required based on the terrain (on, or under), but bring it if you have one, and we'll perform a beacon check. We will not approach the steep north facing bowl of Strawberry Peak, but we may ski the southeast-facing aspen glades (15-20 degree slopes), depending on the group. The initial climbing is mostly easy, but the last mile of the downhill return is on a relatively fast, packed (but wide) snowmobile road (track) to the parking area. The Daniel's Summit Lodge is available (with refreshments) to warm up in for 'Apres ski'. We will be meeting at 9:15 for a prompt 9:30 departure from SLC. This trip may be 'postponed' if we only receive a small amount of new snow.
