nordic ski tour: north slope (road) of iron mine mountain- uintas - December 6, 2026
Nordic XCD (Cross-country Downhill) skiing. The tour starts at the MLH Winter Parking, 14 miles east of Kamas and follows the Iron Mine Mountain jeep road (north slope) on the early season snowpack. You must be proficient in downhill technique on cross country skis. For MOD+ skiers, the terrain opens up for good views and several options in the high country at 7.5 miles in, ~10,000 ft. NTD nordic skiers can join if they drive or form their own carpools to allow for a much earlier return. In December, there is very little sun on this route so anticipate it to feel extra cold. Contact trip organizer if driving from the Park City area. Bring an MLH parking pass if you have one and be prepared to share the cost of transportation. Dogs OK. Suggest lightweight backcountry touring gear (Rossignnol EVO OT65 IFP, or similar, >> 65mm+ width at tip) with scales, kicker skins, or swix wax; 3-pin, NNN-BC, or Xplore bindings; boots with forward flex; and the 10 E's. Avalanche safety gear (Beacon, shovel, and probe) is not required for this route. A stop at the 'Notch Pub' afterwards is optional for food and drink (NTD & MOD+ groups). Dogs ok if you drive. Organizer will have a Garmin inReach Mini 2.
