alpine ski tour: campbell hollow - uintas - February 22, 2026

2/19/2026 - WALLER: TRAVEL ON MILL HOLLOW ROAD TO CAMPBELL HOLLOW IS THROUGH POTENTIAL AVALANCHE TERRAIN AND/OR RUNOUT ZONES CURRENTLY RATED BY UAC AS CONSIDERABLE TO HIGH FOR MULTIPLE AVALANCHE PROBLEMS (WIND DRIFTED SNOW, PERSISTENT WEAK LAYER, AND NEW SNOW). THIS TOUR WILL CHANGE TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION OR BE CANCELLED IF THE FORECAST REMAINS ABOVE LOW FOR PWL OR ABOVE MODERATE FOR ALL OTHER AVALANCHE PROBLEMS.
This tour will be exploratory (I have not skied in the area). Plan is to drive SR35 (if still open) to Mill Hollow Rd (FR054). We will skin 1.5 miles up Mill Hollow Rd (groomed with snowmobile traffic) to the Mill Hollow Guard Station and from there head into Campbell Hollow via FR122 (a less used forest road). Caltopo and OnX show several possible south and east facing short low-angle lines with a mix of dense and less dense pines and aspens. I encourage you to get on your favorite planning app ahead of this tour and drop some pins on possible lines. Avalanche rescue gear is required for this tour and please read the UAC Uintas forecast morning of this activity.
After the tour, those interested may gather at Mirror Lake Diner. Please RSVP via EMAIL, and I will share the meet-up time at Kamas Food Town. If I have not toured with you, please include details in your email including skin/ski abilities and avalanche education. No parking pass is required for this tour.
This tour is dependent on weather, avalanche risk conditions, and SR35 being open. Plan B is to park at Nobletts and explore the Iron Mine trail area and Chevron crude pipe cut.
