kayaking/canoeing river trip - October 23, 2026

Join Chris and Eileen for a fall fun filled weekend kayaking or canoeing on Ruby Horsethief Section of the Colorado River. This section is located near Loma Colorado just above Westwater canyon. This is a weekend trip driving down to Loma on Friday October 23rd . We will either camp or stay in a motel . Places to camp are Highland State Park and James Moore State Park. We will be doing a commercial shuttle with Rim Rock Shuttle Service and there is a possibility we can camp at their campground. Saturday, we will be putting in at the Loma boat ramp getting an early start to avoid the canyon winds. This is a self support trip providing your own meals, snacks and water. Bring a filter or tablets to purify the river water. We have 3 campsites reserved to allow for hiking and enjoying the fall colors. On Tuesday October 27th, we only have 5 miles to go to the takeouut so it will be a leisurely day. Itinerary to be completed by the participants to who sign up. This trip is for experienced boaters only due to the cooler temperatures and low water conditions. Warm clothes and rain gear are highly recommended. There will be a planning meeting Monday October 19th at 6 pm in the board room at Murray Library. Just ask for the WMC boating meeting. This is a beautiful canyon on the Colorado Utah border. The fire danger is down and more side canyons available to hike.Limited space available. The deadline to sign up is Monday October 19 th. There is a deposits of !$50 dollars per person to go toward the shuttlle and permit costs. This trip will be cancelled if the weather is bad. Text or call the organizers for questions. Meeting Place:Loma Boat Ramp.Saturday October 24th. We will arrange carpools at the planning meeting. An invasive species sticker is required from the state of Utah. Colorado does not require one. It is available online
