mountaineering - mt tukuhnikivatz (tuk), la sals - April 30, 2027
We plan to make Mt Tukuhnikivatz (Tuk) (12,485 ft) and Little Tuk (12,056 ft). The TH elevation is approximately 9,013 ft. Distance is approximately 7.5 miles RT. I have not done those peaks yet but scouted the route in May 2026. We will take the ridgeline route. We can have a non-ski group and a ski group if someone can co-organize for a ski group. Tuk is a great expert skiing destination. Trip schedule: Apr 30 Fri: road trip (approximately 4 hours from SLC) & set up a dispersed camp site near the TH. May 1 Sat; climb. May 2 Sun: Road trip. The schedule may be adjusted depending on the conditions. Some participants may go home on Saturday. This is non-technical mountaineering. But participants must: 1) have excellent stamina; 2) be willing to buy/rent/lend required individual gear if necessary; 3) know how to use crampons & ice axe; 4: feel comfortable to climb up and down on steep snow/ice covered slopes; and 4) no history of altitude problems above 12,000 ft.
