burnie glacier chalet alpine ski touring trip - April 9, 2027

A week of ski touring at Burnie Glacier Chalet near Smithers B. C. Canada from April 9-16, 2027 offers longer days (for some epic tours) and good weather. We will likely have powder on north aspects, and realistically, may have some crust on south facing aspects at that time of year (although the guides do their best to avoid less optimal conditions if possible).

Please checkout the website listed below for more details. The cost is about $3750 for the lodge, guiding, and helicopter transport to and from Smithers. Airfare will be SLC to Vancouver and, if you fly with Delta, a separate domestic ticket from Vancouver to Smithers on West Jet or similar (because Delta does not offer a round trip to Smithers).

I have skied at Burnie twice before. The terrain is big and spectacular. The lodge is comfortable and the food was excellent. Our guide will most likely be Tom Wolfe whom I have enjoyed skiing with before. I have also enjoyed skiing with the two other guides who could substitute for Tom.

We have 6 people signed up so far, with 6 more spaces available. I would recommend that you be at least a very strong intermediate skier who can handle some steeper terrain and variable snow conditions, have a good level of fitness and be capable of climbing a minimum of 3000 feet per day. Avalanche safety gear and the skills to use them are required. Ski crampons and glacier travel gear ( harness, prussiks, etc) are also required but the latter can be borrowed at the hut.
