alpine ski tour lodge week in british columbia - January 17, 2027

Is this the year you try backcountry lodge-based ski or split-board touring? This is a fully guided and catered week. This lodge is located high in the Selkirk range at 7,250 feet and is accessible via a 5 minute helicopter ride from Burton, BC. From the lodge, there are a mix of terrain types (bowls, trees), aspects and steepness with options for longer or shorter days (no glaciated terrain). Snow quality and coverage is typically excellent this time of year and there is always safer terrain available regardless of avy conditions. You should be comfortable in deep powder snow but the terrain is suitable for newer backcountry enthusiasts with basic avalanche training. Fitness and familiarity with one's own equipment for at least 3000 feet of elevation gain per day is not required but is highly recommended. There's always the option to take a rest day at any point in the week. Those with lightweight but confidence-inspiring AT or split-board gear will have the best time. Guides have ACMG certification and the group will do a mandatory avalanche rescue refresher on the first day. Six shared bunk or double rooms (linens provided) accommodate a maximum of 12 guests. There are two indoor bathrooms and 2 showers plus a wood-fired sauna. Internet is available for a fee (basic email, not streaming) and so is beer on tap, but you can also bring your own beverages. Hearty meals are made from scratch in the lodge kitchen. Think aprs soup and small bites followed by a hearty meal and dessert. Sandwiches, fruit, snacks and fresh-baked cookies go into your lunchbox for the day. Coffee and tea are always available and breakfasts start with cold yogurt and fruit followed by a hot entree. You can fly to Spokane and rent a car or fly to Kelowna and get a shuttle ride to a hotel in the town close to the staging area. The town of Nakusp has hotels and a few restaurants; it's an hour away from staging and a 4.5 hour drive north of Spokane. I will be on this trip; I went to this lodge last year in February, and have been on two other similar trips in this same range at different lodges. All of them have been fabulous! If time is not an issue, Revelstoke is a few hours north and both Whitewater Ski Resort and Red Mountain Ski Resort are on the way back to Spokane. Revy and Red are both on the Ikon pass. The cost for the guided and catered lodge week is around $3000 US not including transportation or a hotel room in Nakusp. I'm happy to share the costs of the latter if our schedules align. Feel free to send me questions. Otherwise, register via the Valkyr Lodge - Naumulton Mountain web page below. As of 9/24/26, there are 7 spaces available.
