| Holding to tradition, we had a Newcomers Climbing Day before the Newcomers Picnic. As is typical we did this at The Red Rock in Draper, an easy to access crag with climbs from 5.4 to 5.11 so just about anybody would have something to do. Steph, Tim, Misha, Michelle, Mark, and Clive joined with organizers Mark Maier and Paul Gettings. We hung some top ropes on climbs from nearly the easiest to the hardest on the wall and all took turns having a go. Folks without rock shoes got made it up a couple or routes, and even the 11 went down for a couple of people. The weather was excellent (cool enough to keep the sweat away, not so cold as to make fingers go numb) and we did a few hours before heading for the picnic. We expect to see these folks at many more WMC climbing events. |
