The weekly WMC running group has steadily grown and we decided to start offering some longer running-based trips on the weekends. For our first overnight run trip, we headed to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. Four of us drove down Friday and camped at Superbowl campground along with a larger group of WMC rock climbers.

On Saturday we went into the park and ran an 18-mile loop that included sections of the Peekaboo Trail, Lost Canyon, Wooden Shoe Canyon, Elephant Canyon, and Chesler Park. We ran as much as we could, although the rough terrain and ladders slowed us down a bit. Back at camp we joined the climber potluck and mingled around the campfire.

Sunday, on the way home, we stopped at the Behind the Rocks area for another run. We covered twelve miles there on dirt roads before driving home.

If you're interested in trail running, come out with us Wednesday nights and see what it's all about. We go up to six miles but there are shorter options and we won't drop you. Check the club calendar for time and locations.
