| Our crew hit the road early for a weekend of classic desert climbing. Ying, June, and Bryan arrived ahead of the group to tackle some easier climbs and enjoy the stunning rappels off Looking Glass Rock and Wilson Arch. Paul Halinan joined us at Wilson Arch, while Tony, Annette, and David arrived later to pack into our tiny cottage - a cozy but cramped spot for the night. Saturday, we met at Wall Street. Tony introduced us to some mellow slab routes, including some he bolted years ago. Later on, He cruised up some classic routes that the rest of us struggled to follow. Annette, only on her second day of climbing, was a trooper in borrowed shoes from Tony. Meanwhile, Ying and Paul set out early for Castleton Tower, enduring a two-hour wait behind parties on the demanding 5.9 route, which includes an exhausting offwidth section. They reached the summit by 6 p.m., just as we were wrapping up dinner at Moab Brewery. They rappelled before dark but missed the brewery's closing. On Sunday, we climbed at the Ice Cream Parlor (not Milt's), spending a productive morning honing desert climbing and trad skills on shaded slabs and cracks. Growing more comfortable with the techniques, we packed in several routes before heading home. |
