The WMC's weekly Wednesday night trail runs have been a huge success and a great place for runners to get to know each other. Several had decided to run in the Zion Ultramarathons. Kerry and Joe signed up for the 100k, and Caroline for the 60k. A few others joined as pacers, crew members, or just to be there and see an ultramarathon in action. We camped the night before the race near La Verkin, consuming mountains of rice in preparation for an intense, calorie-burning day.

The race began in the dark with a swarm of eager headlamps trotting off into the quiet desert. The runners spent the rest of the day overcoming difficult terrain, heat, blisters, nausea, and all of the other fun kinds of pain that come with these grueling events. Having a crew to resupply the runners at aid stations and run sections with them kept things running smoothly and boosted morale. All three of our runners finished their races, though they struggled walking to their cars afterward. The next day we met up with the WMC climbing trip at Prophesy Wall to get on a few climbs and socialize before driving home.

If you're interested in dipping your feet into the world of trail running, come out with us Wednesday nights where we do six easy-paced miles. Depending on the week, we will either be participating in the Wasatch Trail Race series, or doing our own thing at a trail somewhere. Just check the calendar to see what we have planned and send Kerry a message.
