Red White Red White Hike, Scramble. August 3, 2025
Organized and reported by Brad Yates

I first came up with this hike and name the summer of 1994 and organized it that same year. I have organized most years since. The name is derived from going up Red Pine, climbing and traversing White Baldy, then continuing on the ridge to the twin summits of Red Baldy and then descending the White Pine drainage. This is one tough hike, typically over half of the time on the route the group is scrambling in very challenging terrain through a maze of granite blocks and slabs with the final pitch up Red Baldy transitioning to red quartzite. The hike requires a different conditioning than most outings, upper body strength and conditioning goes along way on this one, this is not a hike for the pure trail runners. This year's version took ten hours to complete. The group included Katie Foster, Mike Nelson, Alex Tausanovitch, Cindy Pelt, Eve Kovacs, and myself Brad Yates.
