Alta Environs Alpine Ski Tour

On a chilly 28th of December, Lisa, Vicki and Eve ski toured to Twin Lakes Pass and along the Patsey Ridge to the base of the summit block of Patsey Marley. We elected to ski down from here due to the cold temperatures, extensive wind effect and thin snow cover higher up. We found some decent, clean turns in the trees. Next, the sunnier slopes of Black Bess beckoned with the promise of much warmer temperatures. We quickly ascended, transitioned and skied/rode the obvious south facing gullies off the peak. We found another untracked gully further down the ridge, making a great final ski run. A quick descent through the well traveled terrain back to the Summer Road amazingly yielded a few more pockets of soft snow to enjoy. All in all, a great day in the backcountry on one of the best touring days of the season so far.
